A vote will take place to increase membership fees at the AAAL Annual General Meeting on April 15, 2014 in Calgary. The proposed membership fee is $100 per member library annually.
The attached document outlines the reasons for this increase and proposed expenses: AAAL Proposed Expenses-Membership Fees 2014
Membership fees and expenses will also be reviewed regularly, every two years, to ensure alignment with AAAL goals and member needs.

bibOER is an offshoot of Canadian Copyriot.
British Columbia is now engaging in Open Access text book publication. And this follows on the precedent being set in the United States, where many larger academic institutions are setting up their own online OER repositories and MOOC’s. I began this bibliographic collection as a tool to market to St. Mary’s University College (StMU) faculty & staff the possibilities and opportunities to both use and contribute to Open Education repositories. I’ve grouped the materials in this collection into the following categories:
• Analysis, Commentary & News
• Associations, Consortia & Agencies;
• Blogs & News sites;
• Guides & Directories; and
• Repositories.
Most of the materials listed in this collection have been published under Open Access, Creative Commons, Public Domain principles, or a combination of the these three.
I hope that this collection will not only be a clearing house, of sorts, of copyright permissive & alternative resources for teaching, but that it will also add to the ongoing conversations about Open Education resources in the academic library context, and how we in Alberta might engage in such possibilities.

Over that past few years I’ve indulged my librarian pack rat proclivities. I’ve amassed three bibliographies that may be of interest to the library community. The first of these is Canadian Copyriot.
I started this bibliography as a response to the Copyright Board of Canada‘s awarding to Access Copyright (AC) an Interim Tariff as well as the hearings on the proposed Access Copyright Post-Secondary Educational Institution Tariff.
Canadian Copyriot is a publicly accessible bibliography of online resources, information, and statutes & case law related to copyright in North America. It’s meant to address the Canadian context, but also includes information related to the U.S. and Europe). It provides access to a variety of resource that include:

NorQuest College is getting into the collaborative groove: we circulated 1300 titles to our NEOS patrons in the first 3 months of NEOS membership, and on February 3rd we officially became part of the Edmonton Public Library’s L-Pass program. This enables students to use their NorQuest ID/library cards at all EPL locations. With NEOS and the L-Pass, our students have unprecedented access to libraries in Edmonton and across Alberta.
NorQuest Library established an Information Literacy Strategy and action plan in July 2013. Two significant outcomes are underway; (1) Establish and pilot an integrated (tutorial and library) writing service, (2) Integrate information literacy outcomes into the program review cycle.
We have just completed the first phase of the Library’s website redesign project. Our goal is to have a new library website ready to launch in September 2014. We are analyzing the data from two surveys launched in mid-January (staff and students). The next step is to hold student focus groups. We are asking students to participate with web design staff to develop the site’s architecture and navigation. A final phase of consultation is set for spring when a second group will critique wireframe options. We are hopeful this will result in a user-centred library website.
Moving ahead we too are looking at a patron driven e-book model for 2014/15 and have big plans to work on our Information Literacy curriculum over the spring and summer months.
