The deadline for proposals has been extended to October 25!

The Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL) Fall 2022 Meeting will take place November 24 2022 and will be hosted virtually by the Association. The meeting will begin at 9:00 am and conclude in the afternoon; a meeting link and further information will be forthcoming. 

We are forgoing a theme this year in favour of an open call for presentations on the work of academic libraries in Alberta. Do you have a new initiative at your library? A research project on the go or near completion? A message to spread to your colleagues across the province? We invite proposals that are related to the work we do in academic libraries in Alberta.

Proposals can be for either a: 

• 5 minute lightning talk that is a quick overview of your ideas, experience, and programs/services,

​OR

• 20 to 30 minute presentation that can include ideas, experiences, original research, engaging discussion questions or activities.

Submit your proposal by Tuesday, October 25. Successful presenters will be contacted within the following week. 

Do you require financial support to present at the meeting? We encourage you to apply now for an AAAL Professional Development Award, whose scope has extended to be inclusive of technological peripheral support. PD Award applications are due Thursday, November 3.

Are you considering presenting at or attending the Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL) virtual Fall Meeting on Thursday, November 24? 

The AAAL Professional Development Award is once again open for submissions. As a reminder, the award has been extended to accept applications for technology-related expenses. This can include technology upgrades (devices, monitors, headsets) or software/subscription fees that would make attending the AAAL fall meeting possible/more accessible.

Eligibility

Applicants must be affiliated with a AAAL member institution

OR

Applicants must be currently attending an LIT or MLIS program

Priority will be given to applicants presenting a session/workshop at the AAAL meeting, or who have limited funding for professional development through their institution, however this is not a requirement. Everyone who is eligible is encouraged to apply!

The Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL) will be having its 2022 Fall Meeting on Thursday, November 24.  The meeting will be held virtually, hosted by the AAAL.

More details about the meeting will be sent out next week, including a Call for Proposals.

We are forgoing a theme this year to provide an opportunity for academic library staff across Alberta to share their work, research, or other ongoing projects through a 20-30 minute presentation or a 5 minute lightning talk.

We look forward to seeing you online!

The Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL) is currently seeking a host institution for our Fall 2022 Meeting, to be held in mid-November. 

The meeting will be held either in hybrid (in-person and online) format or fully online, dependent upon feedback from the membership. 

What does hosting a meeting involve for my institution? 

1. Acting as host on the day of the meeting, including a presentation about your institution. 
2. Providing a point of contact on the day of the meeting to provide opening remarks
3. For an in-person gathering: arranging a meeting space and catering for attendees (catering costs covered by AAAL)
   • Space for participants to eat lunch — this can be in the same space and/or a nearby space
   • Meeting Technology: Computer, projector, internet connection.

As the Learning & Development Committee develops themes and programming, we also invite potential hosts to share their ideas with us.
