The SIMA Project at Vanguard College Library

The Vanguard College Library recently completed a digital heritage project in collaboration with FACTSnet and Young Canada Works examining the Story of Indigenous Ministry in Alberta (SIMA). They are hopeful this project will prove useful to students and the greater evangelical community who want to learn more about or get involved in Indigenous ministry.

The finished website (https://www.thesimaproject.ca/) hosts two main components:

  • A networking database of contacts and resources for Indigenous ministry in Alberta.
    • A comprehensive list of contacts, directories of websites, resources, and books, as well as a research guide. This database enables users to connect with current Indigenous ministry in Alberta, and functions as a tool for higher-level learning.
  • A written story of Indigenous ministry in Alberta.
    • The result of qualitative research interviews held with ministry and community leaders including both Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives. The hope is this can serve as a primary resource for historical information on the history of Indigenous ministry and Indigenous-evangelical relations in Alberta.
