AAAL Sub-Committee Vacancies

The Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL) is seeking volunteers to fill the following Sub-Committee Vacancies: 

Learning and Development Committee – 3-4 vacancies (2-year terms) 

The Learning and Development Committee is responsible for coordinating the Spring AGM and Fall meetings, collaborating with the host institution, and facilitating the running of the meetings. 

Mentorship Committee – 1 vacancy (2-year term)

The Mentorship Committee is responsible for coordinating and supporting the AAAL Mentorship program (Sept-April), including calling for mentors and mentees, pairing participants, and soliciting feedback.

All staff from AAAL member institutions (https://aaal.ca/membership/membership-list/) are eligible. For Sub-Committee positions, we only require an expression of interest.

Join the AAAL Mentorship Program!

Looking to make connections, share professional advice, meet new colleagues, and gain new perspectives on library challenges?  Join the AAAL Mentorship Program!

The AAAL Mentorship Committee is recruiting mentors and mentees from its member libraries for the upcoming academic year:

Mentors:

Offer guidance, support, and encouragement to a fellow AAAL library member who might be early in their career or progressing to new roles. 

Mentees:

Engage with an experienced library member, develop professional relationships with colleagues in different AAAL library environments, and grow your knowledge of library and information work.


If you are interested in becoming a mentor or a mentee, please check out the detailed information available on the AAAL website below. 

 

The program is open to all practicing library professionals (i.e., with completed degrees/diplomas) employed by AAAL member institutions. The application forms for both roles are accessible below. Please note that the program does not facilitate job placements or internships.

Deadline to Apply: Saturday, July 31, 2023 (with matches communicated in late August).

Cataloguing Code of Ethics Survey

This call for survey participation may be of interest to some AAAL members:

The Cataloguing and Metadata Standards Committee of CFLA-FCAB has created a survey designed to gather input across the Canadian library community related to the Cataloguing Code of Ethics. The goal, in a nutshell, is to gauge support for CFLA-FCAB’s formal endorsement of the code. Link to survey and info below:

Call for AAAL Chair-Elect & Committee Members

The Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL) is seeking nominations for the following Executive Committee position to begin. 

All staff from AAAL member institutions (https://aaal.ca/membership/membership-list/) are eligible. We ask that for Executive Committee roles (we accept nominations or self-nominations), interested candidates include a brief statement of interest in your email.  For Sub-Committee positions, we only require an expression of interest.  

Please forward Executive Nominations and Sub-Committee nominations to the AAAL Executive (aaal.executive@gmail.com). 

The deadline for applications/nominations is Thursday, April 27 at noon.

Executive Committee Vacancies

Chair-Elect (3 year term – first as Chair-Elect, second year as chair, third year as Past-Chair – note that the first year of term is only a partial year). 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Call for volunteers for executive and standing committee positions as needed and ensure positions are filled and elections carried out as needed; 
  • Communicate changes to the Executive and Committee roster, including position terms, to the Communications Committee. 
  • Solicit applications for the Professional Development Award and oversee award disbursements

Sub-Committee Vacancies

Learning and Development Committee – 4-5 vacancies (2-year terms) 

The Learning and Development Committee is responsible for coordinating the Spring AGM and Fall meetings, collaborating with the host institution, and facilitating the running of the meetings. 

Mentorship Committee – 1 vacancy (2-year term)

The Mentorship Committee is responsible for coordinating and supporting the AAAL Mentorship program (Sept-April), including calling for mentors and mentees, pairing participants, and soliciting feedback.

Communications Committee – 1 vacancy (2-year term): Webmaster beginning June

The Communications Committee is responsible for the coordination of all AAAL communications, including the social media accounts and the AAAL blog. The vacant position is specifically for a webmaster but will help in overall communications work as well.

Statistics & Assessment Committee – 1 vacancy (2-year terms)

The Statistics & Assessment Committee is responsible for collecting, compiling, preserving, and distributing statistics from member institutions. The committee also assesses the statistics for relevant trends and shares the findings at the AAAL Spring AGM and Fall Meeting.

AAAL Spring AGM: Full Program Now Available

AAAL’s Spring 2023 AGM will be held in a hybrid format on Friday, April 28th, 9am-4pm.

Registration is free and open to all employees of AAAL Member Institutions

The full program and schedule are available in the AAAL Meeting Package. The business meeting, including AAAL updates and member roundtable, will run from 9-10:45 followed by our keynote speaker presentation, presentations, and lightning talks from AAAL members across Alberta.

If you cannot attend the business meeting, you may still join us for presentations!

Those who have registered to attend in person are encouraged to sign up to carpool
