AAAL AGM – Save the Date (May 2, 2025) & Call for Proposals

The Alberta Association of Academic Libraries (AAAL) Spring 2025 Annual General Meeting will be held Friday, May 2, 2025 and hosted by MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta.

Call for Presentation Proposals
Due to the success of last year’s programming, there is no set theme; we welcome presentation proposals with a range of topics, such as current initiatives, topics of interest to our members, and more. Looking for inspiration? Browse our meetings page to view programming from past meetings. There are two presentation formats to choose from:

25-Minute Presentations: A bit more in-depth, allowing you to share research, tools, programs, or services with some room for engaging discussions or activities.

7-Minute Lightning Talks: Quick snapshots to give a brief overview of your idea, research, experience, program, or service.

Please submit your proposal by Monday, March 17th. If you have an idea for a presentation that does not follow the above formats, please reach out to aaal.executive@gmail.com. Successful presenters will hear back the week of March 17th.

For information about how presentations are reviewed, please visit our Presentation Rubric for Selecting AAAL Presentations.

More information about the AGM, including registration and a full conference schedule, is forthcoming.

We look forward to connecting with you all in May!

Kind Regards,

The AAAL Learning & Development Committee

Chair-Elect: Our Chair-Elect position is open for nominations! Put your name or your colleagues name (with their permission) forward to join our Executive team. Details about the position can be found at this link: Appendix A; Responsibilities of AAAL Officers and Committees. The Chair-Elect is the first of three evolving positions and is held for one year before moving into the Chair position. The Chair position is one year and moves into the Past Chair position. AAAL Spring AGM Keynote Speaker, Sarah Eaton

The Alberta Association of Academic Libraries is thrilled to announce Sarah Eaton as the
keynote speaker for the upcoming AAAL Spring Meeting (Friday, May 3rd at Red Deer Polytechnic). Registration for the AAAL Spring AGM is open until Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Sarah Elaine Eaton, PhD, is an associate professor at the Werklund School of Education,
University of Calgary, Canada, who holds a concurrent appointment as an Honorary
Associate Professor, Deakin University, Australia. She researches and writes about academic integrity (a lot).

University of Calgary Prof. Sarah Elaine Eaton poses for a portrait on campus on Jan 27, 2023. Eaton, who works in the Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary, is a leading voice on the study of academic integrity.

Title: Comprehensive Academic Integrity in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence

Description: Teaching and assessment have become increasingly complex with the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) apps and tools that students can access freely or at a low cost. In this talk, Eaton provides insights into how Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and similar apps are impacting teaching, learning, and assessment. Eaton will share insights from a recent research project she is leading at the University of Calgary in which the team is asking the question: What are the ethical implications of artificial intelligence technologies for teaching, learning, and assessment? She will also share the latest developments in the global academic integrity landscape, sharing highlights from the recently published Second Handbook of Academic Integrity (2024, Springer).

Please note that this session is not about how to use specific tools. Instead, we will delve into the broad ethical and practical implications of AI for education in a post-plagiarism age.

Registration for the AAAL Spring AGM is open until Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
